A new chapter has begun at 777 North Capitol Street NE in Washington, D.C., following the official reopening of the newly renovated headquarters of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG).
On September 9, COG welcomed more than 200 current and former elected officials, partners, and staff to celebrate the transformation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and regional leaders. Mayor Bowser’s official schedule confirms her participation in the ceremony at 777 North Capitol Street. MWCOG
For STOLADI, the milestone represents an exciting new chapter for a property that has played an important role in regional collaboration for decades.
A Longstanding Home for Regional Collaboration
COG is an independent nonprofit association that brings together leaders from 24 local governments across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to address regional priorities and plan for the future. MWCOG
The organization has called 777 North Capitol Street home for 35 years. COG broke ground at the property in 1988 and moved into its offices in 1990, when the surrounding area was far less developed than the bustling NoMa neighborhood of today. MWCOG
After decades in the building, COG chose to reinvest in its longtime headquarters and remain in the District.
The result is a comprehensive $10 million renovation of the second and third floors, completed in eight months, on time and just under budget. MWCOG
A Modern Space Designed for the Future
The modernization transforms COG’s workplace to better support the organization’s collaborative mission.
The renovated headquarters includes expanded coworking and event spaces, upgraded technology, modernized offices, environmental graphics, and digital displays highlighting COG’s mission and history. The new space even includes a model train display reflecting the interconnected nature of the metropolitan Washington region. MWCOG
The project brought together several partners, including Bognet for construction, Fletcher Consulting as project manager, Corgan as the architecture firm, and Gropen for signage and environmental graphic design. MWCOG
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests had the opportunity to tour the newly transformed headquarters as COG began the next chapter of its history at 777 North Capitol Street. MWCOG
